Australian Ambassador Dennis Richardson was the guest of honor at a reception at Intelsat this evening to mark the occasion of a recently signed contract with the Australian Defence Force for a UHF hosted payload on the Intelsat 22 satellite scheduled for launch in 2012.Dave McGlade, our Chief Executive Officer, noted in brief welcoming remarks the long standing relationship Intelsat has enjoyed with Australia. Of note, Australia was one of the original 11 members of Intelsat when it was founded in August 1964. And our signature building in Washington, D.C., where the reception was held, was designed by an Australian firm that won an international design competition conducted by Intelsat. McGlade noted that with the signing of the UHF hosted payload deal, we’re looking forward to another 15 years, the design life of the Intelsat 22 satellite, of working with Australia.
Air Vice-Marshall Kym Osley, Head of Australian Defence Staff in Washington and Australian Defence Attaché, and Don Brown, Vice President for Hosted Payload Programs at Intelsat General Corporation, joined Ambassador Richardson for the occasion along with other Australian dignitaries and Intelsat staff instrumental in developing the Intelsat 22 hosted payload deal amidst models of satellites, suspended from our two-story lobby ceiling, that have served Australia for more than four decades.
